Adding More Tabs to Google Personalized Homepage (iGoogle)

I use the Google Personalized Homepage (now called iGoogle), as my browser's homepage.  I've currently using the maximum of 6 tabs to house my Google gadgets as well as my RSS feeds.  I have my tabs organized in a keyword type fashion (News, Web 2.0, Programming, etc) so the 6 tab limit really is a pain as I prefer to bounce tab to tab and not have to scroll down on any given tab.  I really wish that Google would increase this limited to provide for "unlimited" tabs like Netvibes allows.

Fortunately, Lifehacker to the rescue.  There's a little known hack to get around the limit and add more tabs!

Copy and paste this code into your browser's address bar while you’re at the personalized homepage:

javascript:_renameTab(); _dlsetp('at=')

Upon hitting Enter a new tab is added and Google prompts you for the tab name.  Paste the above code again in the address bar, hit Enter and yet another tab.  Viola!

If you give the at= a number you'll get that number of tabs.

javascript:_renameTab(); _dlsetp('at=5')

will give you 5 tabs.

Very cool.  I just love Lifehacker!

One note on the above hack.  If you have a browser plugin, such as Tab Mix Plus, loaded and set to open a new tab upon entering a new url in the address bar the above won't work.  The above code needs to reload the current page, not create a new tab.  So make sure you turn off this plugin configuration option before trying.
